As I am still not quite content with how my Ori Soldier is doing and I find lots of things I want to improve, I'm always working on developing the whole costume.
The first version was a very poor version I think. The armor parts were made of real metal, so the whole costume had an enermous weight. All in all it weighed about 15 kilogram. The helmet - though I somehow like it (it's still around) - was too big (too big for a suitcase, so I couldn't even take it to a convention with me).
Over the course of one year, the metal had tons of rust on it - though, of course, I had used enough spray to protect it from rust.
It was aweful and when I looked at it I just wanted to throw it away - or edit it.
I decided to go the second way and started working with PVC. So all the metal way replaced by plastic which did not only get me rust-free parts but also less weight. I don't exactly know what the whole outfit weighs now, but it should be somewhere around 7-8 kilos.
Well, the only part that increased weight is the helmet. I made a new helmet based on an inline-skating helmet, to which I added the necessary parts. I think this one has around 2-3 kilos, but it doesn't really matter as due to the skater helmet it fits quite well to the head and you don't have a problem of it moving losely while moving.
What is planned for Version 3.0?
Well, a lot!
The fibre glass armor on the left shoulder will be removed by 5mm thick plastic. This will help to make the costume easier to wear.
The shoulder strap will be removed. As it is of now it often slips from the shoulder as it is too wide.
New gloves.
New leg armor.
A new version of the firearm, better constructed letting the light have a better effect on the weapon.
Attaching the Chest armor with velcro to the vest.
